My 03 range rover suddenly stopped on me in the middle of the freeway. I noticed a loud screeching type sound so I pulled over right away. Range turns on and off with no problem, but putting it in either Drive or Reverse causes the same sound once again. I get a message that says place car in neutral on the dash. Anybody have any idea what might have happened? Also, if it is the transmission, any idea what I am looking at cost wise to get this fixed? I would appreciate any feedback.

What happens when you put your truck in drive besides the noise, will it move? Are you sure it is the tranny and not a bad diff or the t/case?

Thanks for your reply DiscoMike.. The truck won't move at all, it just makes that loud noise. I had it towed home for now, I'm at a loss as to what could be wrong. I've had the range for less than 2 months so I don't know if this is a common problem or not.

It is not a common issue with Rovers, please let us know what they find and if you have any questions as to the diagnoises or charges.
