6 disc changer

I am a newb 00' Disco owner of three days and so far so good! very pleased. The only problem I have is the 6 disc changer does not work. I have checked fuses and all seem ok.same with the silly VHS player in back, Is this a common problem?.there is no power light on the changer that i see, the radio works fine and i am baffled. Any suggestions?

slide the cover open on the changer to expose the cd box.  there's an eject button on the top left.  if the box ejects, you know you have power.
 
do you have the CD's in properly? they are loaded upside down.
