But isn't Daimler Chrysler a German company, as Daimler is the larger owner, and I think the shares are listed from the German stock exchange, rather than New York.
In the UK we have no true major volume manufacturer now, which is why I was wondering. how things are in the states.
We do have companies manufacturing though.
Nissan (owned by Renualt - France)
Toyota (Japan)
Honda (Japan)
Ford (USA)
Land Rover (Owned by Ford - USA)
Jaguar (Owned by Ford - USA)
Aston Martin (Owned by Ford - USA)
TVR (Owned by a Russian company)
Lotus (Owned by Kia - Asia)
Peugeot - (Part of the PSA Group - France)
Vauxhall (Owned by General Motors - USA)

Hmm, don't want to burst your bubble, but just a couple of things make me wonder about the company...
a) Chairman of the company is German. In fact nearly the whole board of directors are German.
b) Finacial results are quoted in Euro's with US dollar's in brackets.
http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/dccom/0,,0-5-7158-1-65184-1-0-0-0-0-0-8-7155-0-0-0-0-0-0-0,00.html Seen plenty of mergers over time to actually see that there is no such thing, one company has bought the other, and in time that will show. When the times get tough and the company has to make savings, you know where tha savings will be made..
Please, dig around and let me know what you find, as I think the company is very clever in hiding it's true identity

back to what I really want to know, what manufacturers sell in the USA, and who owns them.. I am becoming convinced that we are now getting to a point actually having only four or five major manufactures carrying lots of brand names...

I think it is a case of not how many manufacturers some company has under their corporate name, but who has the most money in the bank. MB has a lot of investors from the middle east.. which means they are cash rich..
