Anyone have any experience with STI wires (RoverConnection has them)? They sound like the same thing as Magnecor. Id also love to hear any suggested alternatives to magnecor I am going to be switching out my 3 month old Magnecors because I just had 2 plug connectors come off on me, and no I was not pulling too hard. It turns out this is not covered by their lifetime warranty and while I could just replace the two I don’t trust the others won’t do the ame thing next time. The STIs say that the plug connector is shrink-wrapped to the wire which sounds a little more sturdy than Magnecors crimp.

If anyone wants my old Magnecors (8.5mm)... well six of them anyway, let me know. I will send all 8\\; I figure an auto shop should be able to to put new connectors and boots on the other two. Prob not going to get to it for a week or two though.

Thanks,

I have no idea about the STI wires. How are they priced compared to the Magnacors? Well, I guess that I could just go and look for my self huh?

Don&\\;rsquo\\;t worry about it, I&\\;rsquo\\;m lazy too! About 1/2 the price of the Magnecors ($70).

I got some "Allmakes" wires from British Pacific. Time will tell how good they are, but supposedly, it is a pretty solid brand for british aftermarket parts.

Hopefully they don''t crap out as fast as my last set did.

I can send em if you want to give it a go, and if they don''t work you can pass them on to someone else

should be able to purchase 2 replacements direct from magnecor for relatively cheap.  Nice bargain though giving them away.

Yeah, I know. The two would be $30 plus shipping. The thing is I don''t trust the others not to do the same thing after I saw the way they are connected and since I''m doing two I might as well do all of them. Plus, to be honest, I''m a little annoyed they wouldn''t replace them and just want them out of there. If they''d been on a year I''d be totally cool with it given possible oxidization etc, but only 3 months old and the first time they were removed, come on. After seeing how they are made it would have cost them next to nothing to replace them and kept a customer happy, a little goodwill goes a long way. The thing is they just came off, no abnormal pulling or anything and I was choked up on the boot. Looking at the wire the crimp didn''t even cut the silicone when it pulled through. The better thing is that I was pulling them to check the plugs for cracks because I''ve had a rough idle since I put them in. Since they pulled off I stretched out the crimp and then re-crimped the connector on the wire and now the rough idle is gone. I did have to cut the boot to get it through though so they are trashed. I guess I just expected more from the "lifetime warranty." Pretty much it seems only to cover things that basically can''t go wrong to begin with. Sorry for the rant, just a little annoyed and not looking forward to doing the job again.
