Hi -
I am totally new to Rovers (the only other cars I've ever had were sports cars). I would like to purchase a Discovery, but need some tips and advice. I do plan to take it off roading, in the New England area, and also would much prefer a 5 speed. Are there better years of Discoveries? I'd like to buy something cheap (under $5,000), not caring about its looks, as I'd like to build it up for off roading a bit.
Thanks,
Phillip

Really, you just have to look around each one you see, and check out the various bits and peices.
Check the chassis, for rust and or damage. Check the rear load area, around the rear door.
Run the engine and check for the normal things you would for any car, blue smoke etc.
If going to be an off road toy, you have to decide what electrical toys are important for checking.
You can do a fair bit with regard to modifciatons, they are modified to various extents here in the UK, including removing some of the rear overhang etc. (bobtailing) to improve angles of departure etc. 2" 3" 4" lifts etc, larger wheels.
Best of luck in finding one
