I have a '97 Disco I. Lately after it warms up, the engine has a tough time idling down. I noticed that I was having braking problems, but as it turned out the idle would not drop when coming to a stop (it would stay at ~3K rpm). After sitting for about a minute stopped (or stopped in Neutral) it will idle down to ~750 rpm. If I am on the highway and put it in neutral, it will idle at ~3,000 rpm. It does not do this 100% of time though. If it is in park or neutral (stopped) and I hit the gas and let up, it will stick at ~3,000 rpm for 20 seconds or more then drop back to 750 rpm (engine warmed up). It seems more of an issue now that it is cold, but I don't think that is the root cause. This summer, I put in a new fuel pump, so I doubt that the pump has anything to do with it. Also, about a week ago it would not idle. Once it sat for about 5 minutes, it was fine and it has not happened again. I checked the throttle linkages, cable, etc and it is not binding. I have no fault codes as well. Any ideas?? I need Help!!
Thanks,
Tim

Maybe try cleaning out your throttle plate, plenum and MAF sensor. Maybe you got some gunkyness in there.

Clean your throttle body and idle control but NEVER your MAF, you don't have codes showing a MAF and clean them kills them.

I had the exact same issue, I just adjusted the idle at the throttle body, lowered the hex bolt that keeps the TB blade in check at idle, closed it a little more and it was fine. Fixed all the weird idle issues... I'd start mine up and it'd shoot to 3000... Same slowing down at red lights, this fixed it.
