I am looking to get a 50X50 roof rack for the disco. I dont need anything crazy or professional, but I would like something that is good enough quality to carry what I need. I was looking a this one on AB:
http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9231.cfm Its seems pretty simple and it sounds like it will do the job. The only thing I will need to carry is the ocational tools and boards and some beach things (

) at times too. So I will never have very heavy equipment. If anyone who has this rack could write a little review that would be great. If you are totally against these racks, let me know that as well! If you have any other reccomendations, I am looking to spend no more than $300, and it will only be used occansionally, so it would be nice if it was removable.
Thanks guys!

You'll also need the roof rack gutter adapters... $164.95

Good point on the adapters.
The rack is decent for light loads, will be a little noisy, which most of them are, and will suck up about 1 MPG which is also normal for roof racks.

I just purchased this rack a few days ago along with a ladder it will be here in the next few days . I'll try and get some good pictures of it since atlantic british only has pics of it on a RR.
Shipping was only 35 dollars all together for the mounting kit, ladder and roof rack.

Yea these racks come all sorts of dissassembled. Takes probably 30 minutes to assemble, and probably another 30 to get it on the roof. It goes much easier with a second set of hands on the other side of the vehicle though

Wow, good point. That stinks you have to buy those extra. Sounds like this is a pretty good option for me. LRDISCO let me know how it goes installing it, and pics would be awesome. I have the ladder and now all I need is the rack, I'm excited!

Cam - I installed the same rack over three months ago and am very satisfied with it. It was a breeze to assemble and install. I have used it to carry everything from duffle bags, gear and with the addition of pipe insulation, even snow boards. Be aware of the extra height. My stock suspended '04 is now a touch over 7 feet high! Hope this helps. JF

Just don't forget the thing is up there when you drive into a parking garage. Saw it happen a few years ago with a Tahoe. Thought the guy was gonna bust an artery.

I agree, I really like that one. I'm not a big fan of the big roof "baskets" you see a lot, they seem like overkill to me. This one looks like it gives you a place to put stuff on and gives you plenty of strapping points. It looks like maybe you can add more than one at a time too.

I wonder if you could get that style all across the roof to have more stuff strapped down

I dunno, I like having the basket sides for help holding stuff in. On my Blazer when I strap a spare gas tank and a cooler and a couple chairs up there, It would take quite a few more straps to hold all that stuff in, rather than the 2 or 3 I need to strap in using the sides of the basket.
But that does look pretty sharp on top of the discos...wonder if they make one for my Range..

good point about holding stuff in, I wish i could make up my mind to get the full basket or just a 50/50 style...
