I wanted to remove mine and paint then since they are faded and roughed up in some areas. A Friend of mine at a local body shop will paint them for cheap.

Don't take them off, once they get old you will never get them reattached and have them look the same.
As for painting the, take them with the blue painters masking take and paint them while attached to the truck.
Check some of the hardware stores, there are some new paints that are mode especially for plastic.

Thanks, I was aorried about them not fitting right if removing them but I was also worried about possible overspray. I guess I'll mask ev erything off really good then paint them.

krylon fusion makes a product meant for painting those types of plastic.  I know a few guys who have painted their jeep fender flares w/ it and have had good results.

I thought about getting a good primer/adhesion promoter for plastic and painting them with the same paint color code as the body, making them body colored. Anyone done this if so how did it look? It's just an Idea. I thought about doing that and maybe some Range rove rsport side gills, painting the surrounds white to match the body and the keeping the center mesh areas black.

Yes, Paint them in place! Make sure you prep them good with a light sanding and wipe down before you shoot them with the paint. I did the same to mine and they came out looking like new. They still look good three  years later!

I've never seen it done but.... If you wanted to get a good idea the new LR3 is going to have them body coloured and there are pics all over the interweb so check it out as compared to the current and see what you think.

I used to not be able to stand that the flares were not painted but after realizing the number of times I/others/parking lot etc. bumped things into them I started to see the benefit of them being the way they are. Just food for thought. If you take the plunge give us some pics and good luck!!!

I think it would look good, but you do bring up a good point about dings and bumps in parking lots. I work part time as a bouncer and I parks my truck outsid in front of the night club so I can watch it and some drunk girls parked close and opened their door hard into my disco, but lo and behold the fender flares saved the day, and not a bit of damage. I yelled at them and said "hey!to watch my truck"!

I had some pretty good success with using Mothers Brand "Back to Black".  It supposedly restores faded plastic and bumpers etc.  I don't think it brought them back to "new" but they look alot better after using it.  The nicest part is it's cheap and easy...because if you paint the flares, I guarantee they are going to look "off" compared to your bumpers and trim that is plastic.

Look in the "Detail section", there is a current post you may want to also read.

Since my truck is white I was thinking of getting the paint code and painting them that same white, and possibly some of the other trim if it doesn't look right with the fenders white.

I have seen that done and I think that may end up looking better than if you did it in a glossy black (or even a matte black for that matter) Like someone said, It would be hard to match the rest of the black trim. The disco I saw it done on just painted the flares and i looked really nice, even with the rest of the plastic still black. Dupont makes some really high quality and tough auto paint so when you are in the market for paint check out their stuff. goo luck with whatever you wind up doing.
