Looking at a 1963 Land Rover 88a

One has come up for sale locally that has got me interested.  It has a Ford 289 in it.  Is this a normal conversion for those vehicles?  Anything special you recommend I look at?  He wants $1200 for it.  Says condition is decent but I have not looked at it yet.
