So my 96 discovery started running very poorly with bad power and vibrating when I stepped on the gas. It had multiple missfire codes. I checked all vaccum hoses and changed all plugs and wires. It was still acting up and then all of a sudden about 2 hours down the road started acting compleatly normal. Why would this happen? any ideas.

Hard to say, if it happens again then call me with what ever current codes you have and we'll work thru them.
By the way, what brand of plugs and wires are you running?
