mud for freelanders?

how good does a stock freelander do in mud? even with stock tires. i had it in some sand that wasn't too deep and i didn't get stuck. out here in the desert, i think some of the deep sand i would probably sink kinda quick. are there some good tires for sand maybe such as bfgoodrich?

Baja Claws from Micky Thompson are pretty popular around here. a bit pricy though.
