New to Land Rover World

Hello, I am new to the Rover world and let me say based on what I have read so far very proud to be here.  Seems to be the best dang off road vehicle period.  I have actually owned mine since July '06 but I am just now figuring out that it is really an off road machine.  I am going on a dealer overland day trip to Four Peaks this weekend for my first off road trip in my vehicle.
 
I have a friend that owns a Jeep Rubicon (stock with BFG AT tires) and we went off roading in it and it was really good.  How does the LR3 V8 SE stock with 285/60R 18 tires compare?
 
Also, I am originally from Texas and the only off roading I have done was of the mudding variety in a 4x4 truck.  Any advice on this "rock crawling"?
