are you losing fluid rapidly? If so, my vote is the head gasket. If not, then I would look at a plugged radiator or inlet.

not losing the fluid to quick, just found out that the head gasket was replaced a little over a year ago and so that doesn't sound good to me poss the head is cracked, any estimates on a price of that in indiana..

Have you checked the radiator for cool spots.
it may be pluged up.
The coolant gets low and then it over heats ?
Your not losing the fluid to quick, is it just getting low no leaks?
Is the oil milky? Can you smell a difference in the exhaust ?
How long does it take for it over heat?
Does it miss until it is warmed up?
I have gone through this with a truck a few years ago the (?'s) I asked will help me help you.
Mike.

couldn't find any cool spots on the radiator, the temp gauge stay at half for about 15-20 min. in idle park then when i drive it goes up in a matter of moments, i can't find a leak anywhere when it overheats there is always fluid in there, yes the exhaust has a different smell to it ans yes it does miss.. hope this helps.. oh and the spark plugs do not look like they have steam cleaned..

The smell is burning antifreeze, not alot just a little.
Piston compression maybe pushing air into the water jacket &
pushing out antifreeze.
You need to do a compression check, you can get a gauge at Sears.
You should find a lower pressure on at least one cylinder.
This would be a head gasket. The bottom row of bolts may have
been over tightened.
If you dont find lower pressure you may have a cracked head.

I have an 89 and it 2 was overheating bad. I replaced resevior/radiator hose, thermostat, and head gaskets, and bought new battery. I drove a few blocks and car started stalling then once I came to a stop it shut down completely. I can't get any type of movemnet or noise and all electric is out. I need help with suggests as well.

Ahh, The classic symptoms of a slipped cylinder liner. No real way to tell. It's a process of elimination. You can try doing a CO test on the coolant after it's hot, sometimes it will indicate CO in the coolant. In 10 + years I've never seen a bad head or gasket. Always the block. There is a Co. that re-sleeves these old Buick blocks. I'll try to find the link.

so it was the head gasket and the land rover dealership was somewhat helpful and not that bad priced compared to some indy shops which no one around me would touch the disco head gasket, but few gave me qoutes and then told me to leave it at the dealership so i did. thanks for all your help and info.
