See if you can see the drain tube under the power steering gear, if not get back to me and I'll call you and walk you thru how to do it with out making a mess.
I would suggest using 2 quarts Vavoline's synthetic power steering fluid and a small bottle of Lucas power steering additive to keep the pump happy for years.

Where is the power steering gear? I may attempt this and also changing the brake fluid. I'm not a gear head, but can follow directions well...think I should have a go at it?

thanks.

Another option is using something like Amsoil Synthetic ATF.

Not an option in Rovers steering if you want the power steering pump to hold up. Power steering fluid be it standard or synthetic only.

What's the difference between ATF & P/S fluid? My Disco owners manual says to use Dexron II ATF? Which I have been but will change it if there's a good reason? What would be good non-synthetic options?

Rover's have too many power steering pump issues, why help it along. Actually The owner's manual states to use Texaco cold climate PAS fluid, 14315.
I have found that both my ACE and the power steering pump are quieter and the fluid doesn't burn nearly as fast as with Dextron. I have learn that you go with what works best.

Mike,

My owner's manual says to use Dexron 3 or M2C 33. I even have a ZF on the cap. I am running synthetic PS fluid, but it does say that in the OM..

O.K. Mike, I don't see a drain hose.  I'm not sure I am looking in the right place. can you tell me where to look. Think it would be better to call you? thanks for the come back. its good to know I wasn't to only one with P.S. Issues.
