Hi,

Had my D2 for several months now. Love it!

Recently had the head gaskets replaced. Mechanic filled the motor with 10W30 from his 55 gallon drum. about 1000 miles later we were on a trip and the oil was down by 3 quarts. Had my wife stop by to have the machanic check it out and they could find no leaks. The car runs fine, no smoke, coolant is very clean. The mechanic thought that perhaps the Rover motor may need a "special oil"? Perhaps Synthetic and a different viscosity?

Any ideas?

Sounds strange, you shouldn't loose that sort of oil no mater what weight you are using.
I would suggest you pull all you spark plugs and see if you have a wet/ fouled plug from oil burning.
I am in Colo and run 5/30 in the winter and 10/40 in the summer, when I did alot of trails in the high deserts of Calif, I ran 20/50 to counter act the heat.

Thanks Mike,  would I not see some blue smoke from oil burning?

Yes, you should but you're not leaking and it has to have gone somewhere.
