Have other owners noticed that the factory Sirius radio, at least in 2006 LR3, has relatively poor recption and a lenghty pause before the content start playing after a station change?

I live in a wooded area, but it's hard to drive at all for more than 1-2 miles without the station droppion out for a few seconds.  It also takes approximately 2-3 seconds for the music to start playing again after I change a station.  Not huge problems, but I just wanted to know if that was normal, or perhaps I have a defective unit.

My other car as a $49 Audiovox aftermarket XM unit with a tiny little magnet mount antenna, and it NEVER drops out on the same roads, and station change are almost as quick as with regular FM radio.  Looking at the size of the antenna on the roof of my LR3, I would have expected better out of the factory system.

Sorry I can't answer your question but I have a Sirius question.  I have an 06' LR3, how can you tell if you have a factory Sirius radio?  We bought it used and the used car manager told me the 06' didn't have factory Sirius.

I have an 06 LR3. I have had mine 3 times in the dealer to check why my Sirius does exactly the same thing. I live in the San Francisco East Bay area and I can't drive a mile without my Sirius doing the same. The have taken the roof liner down to check the connections all the way back to the antena and have replaced the modulator twice; nothing seems to work. Most people I have spoken with tell me that Sirius simply sucks, that XM is a much better choice. My wife has XM on her Acura TL and it works flawlessly. I simply gave up in trying to listen to Satelite.

Wooded areas are tough on satelite radio.  You really need a clear shot at the sky at all times for flawless reception.  I have had XM in my work vehicle for the past 4 yrs and I have just got used to it here on Long Island.  For the most part it works great, but those damn trees keep breaking up the reception!

The channels on satelite radio will change slower than on FM radio and that's just the way it is.

I have XM in other car and it has 1 sec or so delay - I belive it's due to the fact that it buffers few sec of content when you change channels.

And. btw, XM > Sirius :)
