Any incite on this?
4 months ago I took my truck in because it needed new plugs and wires. I had the LR dealer do the work. About 2 months ago I was pulling my boat from storage when I noticed at 35 mph the truck felt like it had no power and the steering column would shake. Once I got up around 45-50mph the truck felt fine. After a day of boating and on the trip back to the house I noticed the same thing. This time the check engine light came on. I got the truck home and the next day called the LR dealer. The tech told me that he was two weeks behind and to drive the truck and see if the light goes off. About two days later the light did go off and the tech told me if it did, the error has cleared itself. My boat is currently in the shop and I am looking to go get it and me leery. What would cause the lack of power and the steering column to shake? I've been running the truck on a daily basis and with no load she runs great.
Any ideas?

It sounds like your transmission is shifting in to drive (4th)
to early. Try putting the transmission in 3rd and drive it until
you get the rpm up then shift to drive.

Landzu,
Thanks for the reply. I just found out my boat is ready to be picked up.... I will try that tonight. So I wont hurt anything shifting from 3rd to drive on the fly...... I've never done that

No problem shifting up to drive or down to 3rd with in rpm
range. But not below 3rd.
Just sounds like it was lugging the motor down.
Sometimes you just need to leave it in 3rd.
Or start out in 1st and shift to 2nd then 3rd when rpm's are up.

D2? and what year? Why did you need spark plug and wire replacement? Even if the CEL is off, there are codes stored in the memory. Any generic tester can read CEL/OBD codes.

The truck is 01 D2, then had 62k miles. The check engine light came on and blinked. I looked in the manual and when the check engine light blinks its a misfire code. I didn't get the exact code from the LR tech, but replacing the wires and plugs fixed it the code and it was cleared (at least thats what I was told).

I understand that some Disco's II have a sport shift selection button.
This would keep the rpm's up.

I have the sports shift option..... Quick question about the 3rd gear option. From a stopped postion can I place the shifter in 3rd right off, or do I need to go from 1, to 2, to 3rd. I was always under the impression that the 3rd position on the shifter stopped the transmition from shifting past 3rd. I guess what I am getting at is I want to make sure from a stopped position and placing the shifter in 3rd, I'm not starting off in 3rd gear. I am actaully picking the boat up tonight so I will be putting this into practice tonight.
Thanks,

I want to thank everyone who posted. I pulled my boat this evening. Enableing the sports shift and using 3rd gear worked like a charm. So it appears my disco was trying to shift into 4th to soon causing it to lag and strain.
Thanks again!
