Just purchased a '98 disco from my brother who has had it for three years with no problems. The wife was driving it and stopped at the mail box, tried to put it in reverse when something broke and made a crunch sound, dang! Got home, got it in the drive, put it in gear, front shaft spins. Must have spun a gear in the front universal. What I don't understand is I thought this was all time four wheel drive. Is it a front wheel primary drive with limited slip? Front prop spinns in what is obviously broken front universal, rear doesn't turn at all. Is there an adjustment to use rear as primary? Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

Thanks, Hilltopper. Will do. I did order a Haynes witch came in the same day it broke ironicly, but it just refers you to a specialist for anything to do with the universal/tranfer case, not much help.

On the road all the time, so the wife took it to a guy to take it apart and look at it. Ended up being driver side cv joint. bearings and race destroyed. Put a new one in and she's good to go. I wasn't getting the whole "diff lock", I thought it was all wheel drive all the time. Could move it in diff lock, but without it, it just spun free. New grease pack kits for both sides and driver side cv joint and it's like new......until the next thing! HA!
