how do I reset it??? dealership said it generally comes on 83k miles. Why 83k , I don't know- nothing seems to be wrong with the car. They said that they need to reset it themselves for $250 . With that price, It should come with a new battery or somethin. Could someone help this southern gal out???

It depends, can you cook and are you single ? Just kidding. I believe what you are referring to is the Service engine light. This will come on around 82.5 K. It is A emissions reminder light. LR recommends that the four oxygen sensors be replaced. Almost no one does this as the sensors are $300 + US each. There is A relay that can be reset. Need to know the year to tell ya where it is located.

i would highly recomend taking it to and independant shop, rather than the dealer, unless of course you're still under waranty. but yeah, if i says "check engine", you could have a problem. if it says "service engine", i wouldnt worry about it, assuming your giving it regular oil changes and such.

Ed, Mike's link is correct for the location. Do yourself a favor and just unplug the relay and file it ( discard ) ! Light will never come on again. No adverse effects.

I have also seen it located under the passenger side seat, but that may have been a 96...
