since a freelander is basically an x type, i'm thinking that if i put the x type intake and cams, etc on there, it would run a little better. freelander 2.5 = 174 hp, x type 2.5 = 192 hp

The freelander has a very sophisticated 4WD system compared to the Jag. I wont go into details, but the freelander looses a lot of power through this whole system, each bit sapping a little power, but all these little bits add up...

And also, the freelander and Ja are very different vehicles, the Jag, a motorway cruiser. The freelander, an off roader. The engines may well be almost identical, but the landy needs lots of low down torque for going off road whereas the jag doesnt, so it can afford to sacrifice low end torque for high end power!
I agree the cams and intake may be different, but the biggest difference is most likely to be the EMS, which controls all the fuelling etc.

If you consider anything in a freelander it should be to replace your head gaskets with full copper gaskets to prevent the very common engine destruction caused when the stock gaskets fail and fill the oil with coolant. Adding more pressure to the mix is probably a bad idea. Just bore and stroke it at the same time.

really those motors are a bad egg to start with, adding a supercharger would just send it over the edge, not to knock your car or anything

I'd suspect that it'd be more than just a bolt-on-and-go affair.

Usually when you're talking about forced induction, you need to look at the compression ratio of the current piston/combusion chamber combination.  If your compression is already semi-high, adding a supercharger is a disaster waiting to happen.
