I just bought a 2002 Freelander S, it has 48,000 miles and paid $10,937, I got it from a MErcedes delaer, I didn't think the price was too bad , so far so good, I like it alot.

Anything I should look out for? I have a 3 month 5000 mile warranty, so I want to solve any problems asap.

Sell, sell and sell as fast as you can. Trade it in as soon as you can, or face the music. One look around the Freelander forums, you will understand the gravity of your decision. Sorry to hear you bought a Freelander, really and I am not being sarcastic. If you are lucky maybe you can drive it over to the guys at Pimp my ride and get a complete new motor and transmission before these fail.

We have two Freelanders and love them.

One has the Rover L-series diesel and the other has the BMW TD4.  The 1998 L-series is an ex-Camel Trophy spec and is great fun, and suprisingly capable off road.  It's done 105,000 and the only problems have been worn CV joints, clutch replacement and worn propshaft/rear diff bearings, all of which you would expect of a vehicle of heavy use.

The 2002 TD4 has never missed a beat over 66,000, other than a windscreen wiper linkage that failed - repaired in ten minutes with a  cable tie!

Were the L-series and 1.8 K-series sold in the US?  Or just the 2.5l KV6 and TD4?

Cheers

Blippie

Did you sell the Freelander yet? If not, do it know. Don't make a mistake like I did. Tranny/ECU dead @ 55K. Glad we had a warranty. It covered most of it... Keeping it until the next major repair then it gets dumped. Too bad, it's a nice little SUV.
