I'm a couple of months away from purchasing new tires for my 2003 Discovery. I'm replacing the stock 255/55-18 Goodyears. Has anyone purchased this size recently, and if so, what brand/model did you get and how much?

BTW, I drive on-road about 98% of the time, with an occasional hill climb. I Don't need off-road tires or super performance tires, just a nice quiet and smooth ride.

Thanks

Trash the goodyears!! I shopped around for tires for my disco because I got tired of the road noise ande cupping which have happened to my 1st and 2nd set of goodyears. Just bought yokahama geolanders ( geo52) and quite happy with results. Cost was approximately 600 dollars with mounting, balancing, & hazard waranty for all 4. Live in houston where it is hot and raining lots. Great traction and disco feels like an audi a 4 when taking corners now.

Great post! I need the same size tires for my Range Rover. I have Michelin's currently and I am looking at those as well as Pirelli's and Yokohoma's. Most of my driving will be done on road with some beach driving down on the Outer Banks.

I got these BFG's [265/60/18] brand new on ebay for $330 shipped. I beleive I paid like another $60 to get them mounted and balanced. They are really quiet on the road. But I heard they are not good for off roading. I'll find out soon hehe.

You say "Outer Banks"? I just bought a 2003 Discovery with 18" wheels and was wondering how they do in the OBX sand. I'm guessing you can't let much air out of these lower profile 18's without sidewall damage. Do the 18's do alright, or should I get some 15's with more rubber for the annual Outer Banks fishing trip?

The 16" wheel is the standard for the Disco's.
If you do much off roading you can get some steel wheels
for a good price and keep them just for off road.
