I'm new here and this is my first post. I am 16 years old and I'm looking into getting my first car in the next couple of months. I don't really want to spend alot on my first car, so I'm thinking about 15 thousand. I'm not one of those irresponsible kids that will be wrecking it the first week I get it. That's just not me.

I really need some advice from you guys. I've been seeing some Range Rovers like this one for under 15 thousand. I never thought I could afford a Range Rover until after college, but at that price, its kindof hard to pass up.

Would you guys recommend me getting one? What are some pros and cons to buying a used one like that?

I don't know much about used Range Rovers, but I do know that high mileage cars are also high maintenance. Now, you are adding an import into the equation which just equals more money to fix. If you have the money and time to up keep it, then you have no worries. Good luck!

It looks to be a decent truck,and the price isn't bad at all. Ask the salesman if it's "Land Rover certified" if so, you will get a year extended warranty.If not,ask if there is a used car warranty included in this price. If it's from a Land Rover dealership(pictures depict a LR dealership),and they are claiming to have spent $5,000 on it to bring it up to scratch,ask to see the invoice from the garage to the used car department to see what work was carried out(ALL internal work at a dealership has a paper trail). I'm in the collision business,so take some advice from me, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THIS TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN HIT AND REPAIRED.If you don't know what to look for,take someome along who is in the business,or ask if you can take it to a independent shop for a quick look see.Most good body shops offer this service for free. Remember,ask lots of questions if you don't know. A bent frame or a botched up collision repair can(and will) give you a lifetime of grief in a four wheel drive vehicle. If all checks out,go for it! you will have the most pimpin' ride on campus(Chicks love Land Rover dudes!)

15k for a new car @ 16, damn, things changed since i was 16 and that was not long ago, anyway, I'd look into a disco, around 10-12k for a pretty new one, also you will have less money in it which you can use to customize it.

I really don't think he's gonna find a late model Disco II for 10-12 grand unless it has a pile of miles on it. Maybe a late Disco I.You are correct in suggesting a Discovery over a Range Rover though.

I ment pretty new as in 97-99.

Well I would say get a Disco because a. you can get one for cheaper and lot less miles for the price. and b. it will be cheaper to fix than a Range. Don't get me wrong I love Ranges but the upkeep on both is quite steap. If I were you I would find one for $14k and save the other $1k for repairs because you will probably need it.

Best 4X4 by far.

Not the greatest QC / reliability.

Sounds like Land Rover is going out of business from what I've heard on the news.

Land Rover is not going to go out of business, also dealer labor is not alwasy 110/hr, and not everything needs to be taken to the dealer, also computer issues don't have to see a dealer, there are cheaper routes, there are a lot of people that don't know $hit about cars and thats what the dealer is for oh yea and warrenty work as well. but anyway If i went back to 16 and was looking for a car, except for the fact i bought my first truck i was 14, but i would recomend older model pick-up or suv, then as you get older jump into a rover but it is your choice.

Did you read the Reuters article?

"MG Rover, which once made the iconic Mini and Land Rover models, collapsed last week after failing to agree a rescue deal with China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC).

Sources said it now looks likely administrators will be forced to admit defeat and announce redundancies, although MG Rover's plant could be mothballed to pay bills while talks continue.

SAIC has said it is unlikely to agree to a MG Rover rescue deal but a source close to the Chinese carmaker told Reuters Monday it could still be interested in MG Rover assets if it went into liquidation.

SAIC owns the blueprints to some Rover cars, called intellectual property rights, which means they might bid for factory machinery to ship back to China and make cars there, he said."

Have you read anything to the contrary? I'd be interested in Factual info.
