, Calif., April 15, 2005 -- Beginning this July, the Land Rover LR3 (Discovery 3 outside North America) will be available with a V-6 engine in addition to the existing 4.4-liter 300-horsepower V-8.
"LR3 is enjoying record popularity in a highly competitive SUV market," said Richard Beattie, executive vice president, Marketing and Sales, Land Rover North America. "The addition of this new engine derivative broadens its appeal and ensures our customers are getting the widest selection of choice when ordering their LR3."

The LR3's new 4.0-liter V-6 engine produces 216 hp and 269 lb.-ft torque at 3,000 rpm. With its V-6, the LR3 can tow up to 7,700 pounds. Certified EPA mileage is 14 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 19 on the highway. As with the current V-8, the V-6 is mated to a six-speed "intelligent shift" electronically-controlled ZF automatic transmission.

"If you can only have one vehicle in Maine, because of our six-month winters then the period of mud-covered roads that follows it, Land Rover is the way to go," said Lou Genova, a sales representative at Land Rover Scarborough in Maine. "We have a lot of realtors who show houses at the end of soggy, two-mile dirt roads. For them, LR3 is the vehicle of choice. The price of the new V-6 model will be very important. It'll bring the new people in and make some owners of 1999 and 2000 Discovery models think about trading into a LR3 now that it's closer to the price point they are used to. The V-6 should make the LR3 more attractive to more Mainers."

All V-6 models come highly equipped with a long list of four-wheel-drive technologies including the innovative Terrain Response? system that lets the driver choose one of five terrain settings via a chunky rotary dial on the center console. LR3 models with the V-6 also have a four-corner electronic air suspension, electronically controlled infinitely variable locking center differential and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

In addition to the list of features standard on the V-6-equipped vehicles, an optional premium package for the LR3 adds leather trimmed seating surfaces, shift knob, and front folding armrests plus a 240-watt harman/kardon AM/FM/6-disc CD changer with nine speakers. The premium package also includes a power tilt and slide front sunroof with a fixed Alpine roof over the second and third rows, a second-row auxiliary audio port behind center console and an "SE" badge on the rear tailgate.

A limited number of 2005 Land Rover V-6 LR3s equipped with the premium package will be available in North America beginning this summer. The 2005 and 2006 model year V-6 units will be available with a base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $38,950 and the optional premium package for an additional $3,000 (included on all 2005 model year units).
