I just purchased a 2001 Series II Disco with 61K miles. (My first Rover)
I thought it was a good deal, but two weeks later it overheated and the coolant flooded out the bottom.
The service guy where I bought it said it was a Timing Cover Gasket and fixed it.
I am worried that it is something more major.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony in NC

Tony,

The timing case cover is a known area where coolant leaks occur. But make sure the water pump is checked out, and have someone that is knowledgeable take a look at the head gaskets to make sure they are not seeping.

I agree, if for any reason you start running warm or have to start adding coolant, go have the coolant system pressure tested to verify where the leak is.

Definately have the system pressure checked it'll tell you a lot.  The radiator went out in mine and they're not cheap, about $500(parts only) for mine, and i'm sure the head gaskets aren't cheap either.  If the water pump is going bad, it's not a huge deal, I did my own for about $150 total.
