'93 Rangie, KA635019 VIN with ABS, RH drive..

Brake lights stopped working on rear corners, one in center of upper tailgate worked OK.

1. Checked globes OK but replace anyway.

2. Checked switch OK, but replaced in case of intermitant fault.

3. Flashers, parking, reverse and tail lights all working OK.

4. There is NO power to the stop light at the tail light assembly harness plug near the tail lights.

5. While doing some testing, the stop lights came on for about 30 seconds then lost power again now the one on the upper tailgate stopped working, globe is OK.

6. ALL testing done with digital multimeter.

All light related fuses appear to be in fuse box on facia in front of front passenger seat, I have found 2 more under the drivers seat ALL FUSES TESTED OK.
There are plenty of RELAYS scattered about the cabin but there is no indication what they are related to, I have been able to work out what some of the are for but none seem to be stoplight related (But who knows?).

Does anyone know if there are any STOPLIGHT specific fuses anywhere or have electrical details (Schematics) for this model that I can download.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

how is the GROUND side? very much rust on the body grounds?

I had a similar problem with a LWB trailer plug on a 93. The SWB worked perfectly with headlights on and off. The LWB only works with headllights OFF -- the schematic changes with lights on and I can't figure out why.

My brother said he chased a similar ghost and ended up finding that the common grounds were intermittantly shorting out (usually once they got warm). run a few new ground straps - even going back to the battery and see if that helps. It worked wonders on a WV I had once too.

My wiring manual is 93 North America, but I'm told it's really 1992 NA. Personally, I'd try the ground strap before pulling hairs out trying to follow a bogus wiring manual.

Tony

Thanks for the PDF files they make it clearer, or at least they have 1993 RANGE ROVER on the page which is more than I have to date.

Not much difference to '95 that someone else sent me but as I say 1993 and Range Rover on the same page must be closer ...damn well hope so.

I'm just working my way through the ground thing at the moment so will let you know how I go.

Bill

another question: is there power going into the fuse at the fuse box?

All light related fuses appear to be in fuse box on facia in front of front passenger seat, I have found 2 more under the drivers seat and another 3 under the passenger seat but these 3 are ABS related, ALL FUSES TESTED OK, There are no fuses in the engine bay.

It didn't occur to me to check if power is getting to the fuse at the fuse box - I guess I should check ALL FUSES to see if power is to the fuse base, however wireing schematics don't show a fuse in the stoplight circuit - BUT this is a RANGE ROVER so who knows probably not even Rover :-)

OK going to check after lunch.

OK I now have brake lights .... must have been earth or connection problem, but now I have another question related to this post.

QUESTION: On the rear tail light assembly there are FLASHER and REVERSE (Roughly centre of the assembly), a combined PARK/BRAKE 21W/5W bulb at the top and another 21W bulb at the bottom that has a reflector behind it which I assume is also a BRAKE LIGHT can anyone confirm that the bottom one is indeed a Brake light, I now have the top brake light working but nothing at the bottom one.

Someone on another forum suggested that lights change in different countries and that the bottom one might never have worked in australia.

[Edit] Appears what I thought was a lower brake light is actually a rear fog light and can be switched on from the dash when the headlights are on, not a lot of fog in Perth so I had never had any use for it .... But I would like to disconnect it from the original wiring and hook it up to the brake light wiring this would then have a draw of 2 x 21 watt on each corner of the vehicle = total 84 watt, would this be ok or should it be through a relay?

Thanks for any help.
