I just bought a 2003 Freelander.  I love the car but the TC and Hill Decent Failure warning lights keep coming on.  I took it to a local mechanic and he cleaned out the brake drums, and was unable to run the codes.  The lights stayed off for a few days. Now they are on almost the whole time.  Any one have this problem resolved?

I've  been having the same problems the past few weeks and haven't figured it out.  Hoping someone has discovered the issue on here.

my guess it's the brake light switch. My '03 does this occasonally===if I hit the brakes or just shut the engine off, it goes away. there is a recall to replace these switches on ALL Freelanders (when parts become available late this spring)

I have had this same problem quite a few times. I replaced the brake light switch and that did not take care of the problem though. Now when it happens to me the windshield wipers didn't work and the brake lights did not work, so look out for that to happen. I never had the problem in the winter. I don't know if that means anything. for a while I was able to just run it through a big mud puddle and it would then go off the next time I started it up. I wonder if it is the sensors for the traction control getting dirty. I havn't had this problem since last summer. It would work for a while to start the vehicle, put it in drive without taking your foot off the brake and then putting it back in drive and then take foot off pedal, this like I said worked for a bit. The whole thing is very frustrating.

We have been having that problem with our 2005 models, does anyone know the solution to this problem because we find no faults when given the diagnostic

Thank You

I owned a 2004 for a few years, up until a few months ago.  My TC and Hill Descent Control warning lights would only come on when I made sharp braking/turning movements (never just a sharp turn or just hard braking, but both together).  I would reset the system by shutting down the engine, counting to ten, and starting back up again.  The dealer could never find anything in the diagnostic tests, but I always suspected it was directly related to the brake switch.  If you are replacing a faulty brake switch with another faulty one, the problem will continue.  Make sure that your new brake switch is a LR replacement switch (made for the recall).
