Hey here is a picture from just a quick glance underneath.  Its a shot of the front of the transfer case.  What do you think?  I wanted to upload a few more pictures, but it wouldn't let me.

                                                                                        Thanks, David

Judging by that pic, I'd say the bearing is shot - change it before you drive the truck again.  I'm going to get a second opinion on the photo though - just in case it's something I've not thought of.  I'll get back to you later ;)

Cheers,

Me again.  One thing that has me somewhat confused is the lack of any oil or grease coming out of the shaft.  I would think if I had a bearing failure that there would be oil.  Just my thoughts.  What do you think?  Hope to hear from you today.  I will plan on taking the bus to Tirana tomorrow to the Land Rover Shop and hopefully purchase the new bearing.  My truck may be down for awhile if they have to order from the UK.

Ok - spoken with a couple of other people, if it's not the bearing it might be the output shaft itself is bent.  If that's the case you'll need a new bearing anyway as an impact hard enough to bend the shaft will mess with the bearing too.

When you take it to bits to replace the bearing , place the shaft on a clean flat surface and roll it along with the palm of your hand - you should be able to feel if it's bent as an irregularity in the way it rolls.

Cheers,

One last question?  Do you know of anyplace on the internet that thye would have an exploded view of the transfer case for this 110?  I don't have a service manual so any info would be greatly appriciated.

I found one the other day - but it's bookmarked on my wife's PC - next time I use it I'll post the link to you.

Thanks ADZ,  I look forward to tearing into this.  Any idea what a new shaft would run?  I may have to order from the UK.  I doubt they would have one in stock.  I always hope to find a salvage yard for items like that, but I have not seen to many Defenders in the yards here.  Thanks again.

New front output shaft from BeamEnds is about £45 and a Britpart bearing from the same people is about £10.  I'll e-mail you the links.
