**UPDATE**

So my exhuast ran straight through the resonator.  In the front, out the rear.  I cut the resonator off by using a sawzall and cutting between the resonator and the exhaust hanger.

**BAD IDEA**

This leaves the HOT exhaust gases to be directed straight back and into the backside of the rear bumper, but more importantly, directly into the rear left bumper mounted turn signal.

A road trip to visit Mom for Mother's Day ended with me discovering that I was missing my left turn signal. Not the bulbs, wiring harness, or little mounting plate.  Just the "box" housing and red/orange lense assembly.

I didn't associate it with the resonator removal.  I assumed the previous owner had replaced some bulbs and just not replaced the turn signal solidly. I ordered a replacement for $50 and got it all put back together.

This morning I drove 115 miles north to get my Land Rover computer reprogrammed after installing the new lift.  No  problems, all is well.  But when I return home another 115miles later . . . no left turn signal . . . AGAIN!!  I am guessing exhaust is warming the plastic and metal bits which hold the assembly in place, gradually softening them on drives covering longer distances, making themsofter,  more maleable.  Then I suppose, with a good enough rev of RPMs while passing another vehicle, or the like, the tail-light assembly is literally getting BLOWN right out of the bumper!

I ordered another.  It's on its way.

During my dinner break, I am going to get back under the rover and try to make a new cut somewhere where the pipe is bent DOWN to where the exhaust gasses are directed toward the ground.

I saw pics somewhere, where a guy had installed a flowmaster, then just bent the pipe down before it even reached the rear axel.  Hell, I may just end up going with something exactly like that by stopping by the local Midas. . .

So. . . so far my little "custom" exhaust attempt has cost me $120! HAHA!  $100 for two left turn signal assemblies, and $10 a pop for the shipping of each!

Your's is a little different from mine. Just put a tip on it. If you cut before the hanger, your exhaust will be hanging by 1 hanger. If it goes, it will be hanging from your engine. I haven't looked under a D2 in a while, but I do know that yours is a straight shot from the pipe. I had to offset mine to get it out, it would have run into the hitch.

Look carefully before you cut....

sorry about your tail lights. I had mine open and drove to Dallas 2 times and didn't have a problem. I actually thought about that and installed a tip just to get the gasses out of the bumper.

Thanks for the "tip" tip! So getting a tip put on. . . there wasn't but just a few inches between the hanger and resonator, where I cut. This only leaves a couple inches sticking out beyond the hanger, and a decent amount of space before anything would even clear the bumper. So am I going to need to have a muffler shop weld on some extra pipe, with a bend in it, then put on a tip, just to clear the bumper? Why even bother with the tip?

Perhaps a pic or two of what everything looks like will help out. I'll get one or two up later this afternoon.

First pic: you can see the exhaust pipe through the whole in the bumper where the turn signal goes.  In the second pic you can see how little pipe there is to work with past the hanger, and how much space there is to the bumber from where the resonator used to be.
