Please advise:

I'm about to buy a Freelander, I have one in mind, it seems in good condition (2003, 80,000 kms on the clock) - but I'm getting words of caution from every quarter about buying a Landy in general.

I like the look, feel, and general sense of the vehicle, but I'm concerned to purchase.

What should I look out for? Should I buy?

Thanks in advance....

... And why do these vehicles seem priced lower than their competitors?

landies can be troublesome if you dont look after them properly, regular servicing maintenance should keep it going fine, the lower price may be due to it being used off road but im not sure. just ask about anything in particular and im sure i can give you some help

Thanks much for that Randy Lover -

Seems I've found the Free Lander I want, and am going for it. I drove it, seemed in very good nick, drove well, only 61000 k's, 2002 model and they emphasize it was a lady driver (is this a good thing?)

I want to find out about possible usage with biodiesel. Should I create a separate discussion for this?

Based in South Africa.

Thanks James

With all the shock from the problems i have had i forgot to advise what freelander it is ...
2001 V6 2.5 petrol.
I have asked other freelander owners if they have had any problems .
To date none so bad as mine , i must have brought a lemon ...

Bought my 03 SE new and only a few minor problems that were covered. (Brake light switch, a spark plug coil went bad) Got 50K miles and running great. I think some of the bad rap these hippos get is because more people vent about bad experiences than people that are happy with them. It also probably has a lot to do with different driving styles. I read posts from people bitching about brake pads wearing out after 20K miles and tires at 30K miles. I'm still on factory tires and just put front pads on at about 48K. I don't drive like a little old lady but also not like every trip is a road race.
