I have a 99 Disco II. I recently tried to pop the hood to check fluids and such. The hood wouldn't release..even after multiple attempts. I was wondering if there is any other way to open the hood?

You might be able to get access to the cable by removing the front grille, at least you can on a defender. Though you might need to use long nose pliers.

The catch needs to be greased on a regular basis, otherwise the plates stick.

The cable stretches. You need two people. One to pull the handle, one to push down on the front of the bonnet. This should pop it. Don't close it all the way again without replacing the release cable.
