Hi there, I have a 1999 Disco 2, and have been having problems with stalling on the road, and also hot restarts. When the vehicle dies out on the road, it is always after about 10 miles of driving, and does not restart untill cooling for about 10 to 15 minutes. When I turn the vehicle off after driving for a period of time, it will not restart untill it gets to cool its usual 10 to 15 minutes. Then it starts right up like nothing ever happened, and drives out fine untill stalling some ways down the road again, and repeating this procedure untill the destination is reached. The vehicle starts every time without fail when cold, but has trouble when hot. It will crank and crank, but no fire untill it gets to sit. I have checked fuel pressure, the condition of the strainer sock on the pump, replaced the pump relay, and also the ignition relays both under hood and under the dash. Can anyone offer some advice as to where to look next? Thanks in advance for any help.

Eric Brown

116000 when the problem started. I have been reading up a bit more on the situation, and have ended up replacing the crankshaft position sensor. That has seemed to be the ticket. Apparently, it was getting fried, and would cut out when it got too hot, hence the stalling at intersections, and not restart after a few minutes of sitting.

217 miles on the repair, and not a single act of defiance from it yet! I think that did the trick, cross you fingers and knock on wood! I was able to borrow a small oscilliscope to watch the sensor pattern and there was no pattern during one of its no-start episodes. Got a good pattern out of the new sensor, and a good running vehicle.
