Hi, I'm new to this site but I have had my LR3 V8 SE for nearly two years and needed to replace our tires. We couldn't find any of the factory tires and  had to settle on Yokohamas. They are slightly bigger than the original tires and they seem to be unable to cope with the weight of the car. Carrying little speed on a bone dry road the tires squeel like crazy. Should we just wait until we need to replace the tire or do you think we should replace them now. It isn't dangerous in any way but I was just curious. I know nothing about mechanical things and don't take it offroad, and just want good tires! Thanks in advance.

Well, one of the best things is to get rid of the Goodyear Wranglers.  Horrible noisy tires, but they are strong.  I have an HSE, so I have fewer tire choices.  I put on the Michelin Synchrones, and they are are a great tire, especially if you do a lot of road driving.  Still good off road, but quiet on road.  If you want a good offroad tire, get the Nitto Terra Grapplers.  Lot's of So Calif guys have them for offroad.

Don't know if  Micheline makes 18s or not...There's a start for you.

I have Toyos on my LR3 and they are great.  Agree, the Goodyears were horrible.

The tires on my SE (V8) like I said are Yokohamas called Geolander, and I see them mostly on old GM pick-ups. And like I siad, they suck.
BTW, thanks for the responce.

I agree with the Toyo's!!!!  I needed to have the 4 wheel alignment also (and of course LR is the only one that can do that) so I bought the Toyo's and had landrover install and align.  Very pleased with performance and I also like the aggresive look of the tread.

Goodyear Wrangler HP's (stock tires) are a very bad choice tire from factory. I believe everyone will agree on that. Not only are they a bit noisy but they are useless in all but dry, well packed terrain.
What most people forget to take into consideration when they chose another tire is that the LR3 is a very heavy vehicle with the capability to tow up to 7700 lbs. Because of this, there is a minimum load requirement on whatever tire you choose to put on it. I believe a rating of 108 is the minimum rated for the LR3 but I'm going off memory on that. Anything lower than that makes your tires UNSAFE on that truck.

I understand that a lot of LR3 owners have no intentions on taking their SUV off road ever. For those of you, just picking a good all season tire that meets the load requirement will work fine. Now, for the rest of us who plan to see off road, perhaps even some snow and ice, the choice gets a little more complicated. I am using Goodyear Wrangler "Silent Armors" on my LR3. Look at the thread under the topic "Tires" if you need more info on these tires. They are simply the best tires in my opinion for the owner who expects the very best  performance from his tires in all conditions.
