I have a 96 Disco on the way on monday morning and I'me getting freaked out.Everyone says I don't want a LR,that they are always f'd up,and in the shop. Here's where I stand.I WANT ONE!!!!!,but I have a job in Atlanta that I'm on the road in haevy traffic all day.Now comfort isn't a big deal,I've been driving Jeep Wranglers since I got my liscense so the LR is tons better than that.
Gas isn't huge, even though I drive all day,the Jeep is only rated at 1 mile per gal.more than the V8 in the Disco.
The real deal is that atleast for a year, this will be my only ride day on and day out,and I cannot afford to be fixing it,my job depends on it. So my two biggest questions are 1-are they prone to break-downs of the motor type, and what engine is it?Is it an American engine? Is it easy to work on like a Chevy?Or it is some crazy motor that I'll have to get my degree from MIT to fix?
Help me out here guy's,but be honest, don't gloss it over if this isn't the ride for me I really can't afford it if it's going to let me down.
I love these things and if it's going to be a great ride even on the road's of Atlanta, and NOT try to die in 5pm traffic then I really REALLY want it BAD!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!

it should be a bmw motor. ford bought LR in 2000. up 04 range rovers and discoverys had bmw motors. discoverys are no longer made, now they have the lr3, which has a jaguar engine, like the 05 range rovers. even the freelander has a jaguar engine and transmission. guess what, ford owns jaguar too

its a buick motor, (GM), You will have normal used car probs. but just take care of it and maintain it and you should be ok. If you have any mechanic skills you will save a lot by doing the work yourself, parts seem hard to come by but a lil bit of research will greatly benifit you for the part you are looking for.

One day is a little short. Do a search to find issues. Good luck and know that the board will be here to help !
