Indiana, I bought the car for 1,950 and all the small shops around here have wanted to replace the entire axle when the only thing that needs replaced is the rear differential, and they wanted 3,000 for the axle.

Sounds like it is time to pull the diff down, let me know what you see and if you have a problem finding a used one.
