I am going to replace my rear differential and I am wondering how hard it would be to just install it myself I am trying to cut down on costs?

What exactly are you going to be doing? Are you installing a replacement 3rd. member?

the rear differential case has a small hole so I am going to get it welded over and then replace the rear differential with a 3rd memeber? 3rd memeber rear diffs. are the only ones that I have seen online is that what you would suggest doing?

So, you have a ho;e in the outer diff housing, was it caused from an impact or diff your diff gernade?
If you have to replace the 3rd. member, that is pretty easy and no speial skills are involved, have you found one yet?

I am not for sure what cause it some shops have told me a rock others have said that the differential gears caused it. I found one on ebay from a range rover dealer. would you have any suggestions on other places to go.

yes it grinds that last time I drove it I haven't driven it since to not damage it more until I get the hole welded over, but yes it is noisy and Shakes.

I would stop driving it then before you break an axle also.
What sort of prices have you found for a used 3rd. member?

on ebay I can get a 3rd member rear differential for 139.98 and shipping being 120.00, I have also found them for 250.00 shipping 35.00.
