On 4 occasions over the past 4 years my Freelander 1.8xi has failed to start. The starter doesn't turn. On the first occassion the car was under warranty so I called out the Land Rover recovery. The mechanic spotted the problem instantly. Apparently, it's a known faulty connection which he cleaned up and away it went. Since then all I have done is wiggle every connection I can see under the bonnet followed by a spray of WD40. This has worked every time although I'm none the wiser as to which connection is problematic.
Has anybody else had similar problems and if so do you know which connection is the known offender?

There can only be a couple of connections causing the problem.. the connectors on the alternator and the plug to the black box.

Suspect the problem is the cables to the alternator, as Rover, and Land Rover have a habbit to produce a vehicle with the wires a fraction too short, or the engine too far forward or something like that... putting strain on the connectors.

Its probably the exciter wire to the starter (the small one with the plastic cover over it)
Take it off, clean up the termianl, put it back on, and see what happens!

Yes I've had that problem and it was the ignition switch which needed to be replaced.
