I am ready to buy a set of tires for my 2000 Discovery II. I have the stock 16" alloys that I will be using. I have read good reviews on the General AT2. I also like the BFG A/T but they are a little pricey. I want to go a little bigger 255/70/16 or 245/75/16. Has anyone had any experiance with the AT2 tire? I live on a very steep driveway and I need a good snow capable tire. My stock Bridgstone Dueler H/T barely get me up the hill in 6 inches os snow with the CDL locked.

Thank you,
Willie

245/75/16's work well on a stock D2 without a lift. At's, especially the BFG AT's last well are quiet and handle the snow and although they are more expensive they are better built then most of the other AT's

I went to Costco today to look at BFG A/Ts. They said the 245/75/16 size only comes in 10 ply for heavy duty applications. He said I would get a very stiff ride. It already rides like a 2 ton truck on the 2 ply tires. He recomended the new Michelin LTX A/T 2 in the p265/70/16 size. That is 30.6 tall by 10.43 wide 7.3 sidewall. It might be a little to wide. The BFGs look like they would be better offroad. Michelins are known to get a lot of miles out of them though. Do you think your 10 ply BFGs are too stiff? It would probably help with cornering on the road with less sidewall flex.

I finally bought a set of 245/75/16 BFG A/Ts. Came to $850. for four tire! The stiffness is about the same as my old tires. Dry road handeling seems to be good.  What pressure should I run these at?

I see you all talkin about goin from a 255 to a 245...whats the advantage in that...what is the largest tire and width that can be put on a 99 D2 with stock air suspension?  ive been lookin at the General Grabber AT2 285/75/R16....that goin to be too wide?

Here is a good tire size calculator to give you an idea of what your getting. I am pretty happy with the 245/75/16 tires, I am not going to use this vehical for very tough offroading, just commuting, light trails and snow. You will probably need a 3 inch lift and lower gears with the 285/75/16.

I have a 2001 Disco 2 and I took it into my local car shop and they said that the biggest tires I could get on them were 265/75R16 without any rubbing.
