reedster5 -> Rusty Exhaust (9/15/2007 8:43:47 PM)

Hi all,

I'm a new add to this forum hoping to get some advice.  I recently purchased a 2005 LR3 for what I felt to be a screaming deal.  I was able to pick it up from a local dealer here in Colorado for $5000 below the listed bluebook/NADA price.  The vehicle was given a thorough inspection and full certification.   Combining this with the fact that it only had 35K miles and came with the 50K warranty intact AND the dealer through in FREE oil changes for the life of the car it seems I can't go wrong.  One thing that did concern me was the seamingly excessive rusting of the exhaust system.  It was hard to beleive that the exhaust would look as bad as it does considering how well maintained and flawless the rest of the vehicle is.

Should this concern me?  Is this typical wear seen on these?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

Dan

Well, I must say that's a first for me. Never heard of an LR3 exhaust rusting out like that. Could it be the last owner put in a cheap after market exhaust for whatever reason?

w/o pics it's hard to judge, what's "excessive" for one may be "barely" for others.

If it is a Colorado vehicle, the vehicle is prone to get some rust quicker then normal because of the salt substute, which is sprayed on the roads in the winter for ice control. I have been back in Colorado for a year and a half and my exhaust looks like hell. Make a point of going the automated care wash at least once a month during the snow season washing the under carriage, to prevent to much rust from building up.
