Now that I've been hitting the mud I'm finding that my wheels are holding a whole lot of mud after each run and there is not really a good way to clear them without a pressure sprayer and a lot of time. One of the issues is the sheet metal brake shields are in the way and prevent the mud from escaping the wheels on the inside and frequently trap rocks inside the rim which of course throws things off-balance. Does anyone have a good arguement for not just removing them?

It would definitely make brake jobs easier . I really don't know what purpose they are there for. I'm sure it is something cataclysmic

I found I got that anyway, I think I'll pull them and see how things go. Not being able to clean it effectively would probably result in more getting jammed in there long-term than being able to scrape it out when back on the hard stuff.
