I agree with the dealer part. I hate to hear stories like that, because all it would take is a little more effort (in your case a lot more) in the customer service department to keep their customers. The dealership in louisville ky has been pretty friendly, and very helpful. They always have alot of parts on hand also, I don't know if this is the norm or not. They are pretty supportive of local DIYers.

I bought an Infiniti this weekend! I was in Dallas for my cousin's wedding and fell in love with a Q45 there - now to find a 4wd to fill that void. I totally agree with the dealer comments - I would still own the Disco if the dealer/area rep were competent.

There is a lifted 96 with a snorkel for $2300 down the street from me....She's rough, but would be a good project.

Wow, and you didn't even have any "Real" problems. Some people need to live their lives wrapped in bubble wrap. I like to get my hands dirty. Oh well...

In the last few months every time I've let someone else work on my truck it came back with issues. The radio / alarm / tint guys wired an open butt splice under the passenger carpeting which corroded out and shorted out the radio. The dealer swapped a transfer case and shifter for me, but only hooked up one of the lockout solenoids and left the other lead dangling then when they inspected it when it would not shift high-low they said it was transfer case internals. The shop that put my differentials in put them in too tight and denied this, and I had to pay to get one swapped over to an ARB to get rid of my issues, then I had them swap my transmission fluid and filter and they pinched the gasket cutting the upper left corner, which did not leak until I was on a 45% angle on a rock slab and then spewed ATF onto my Y-Pipe causing a fire. Now granted when I re-wired things I got tar (dynamat) between a ground terminal and the ground which caused me endless headaches as I searched for a week before I found it, but I learned more than you can imagine in the process and I'm not a mechanic with certification, training, or daily experience so I expect to make some mistakes. Everything else I've done myself when I've taken my time and been careful has been better than getting a mechanic involved by far, and I learn enough each time to fix similar issues again in the future and gain the confidence to do so.

Isn't the point of the warranty to bubble wrap people? You like to take time out of your day to get your hands dirty working on a vehicle that is under warranty? I've got no problem doing the work, but the warranty implies something, kind of like the certificates up in the LR shop imply they know how to work on one. I'm going to move forward with my V8 Wrangler project to fill the above mentioned void - this should be fun! I've got a 350 with 4 bolt mains and axles/t-case from a 70s Ford dually - let the cutting and welding begin!

I just bought a 2004 Avalanche, I'm on my way to selling my 2003 Disco (86K miles) The Avalanche drives like a cadillac. The Rover drives like a boxcar. I think the engineering behind LR sucks.

A LR is a SUV, An Avalanche is a 1/2 Ton truck. I didn't say it was a car I said it drove like one. What I need is something that you can get in and not worry about what's going to go wrong with it today? Or what lights will come on or what wont work or what strange noise will it make or where can I go to have it looked at because the dealer is 5 times higher in price than any other brand of car out there. Not to mention the dealer service seems to be less helpful and sometimes incompetent. I drove a Ford explorer sport trac for 3 years and I did not have 1 single issue! NOT ONE!!! And I took it wheeling. Not bad mouthing anyone or any company, but that's my opinion. Their engineering sucks.
