First of all...this has been a great community, thanks to all of you.
After multiple issues with the dealer here in Austin and with the higher-ups, I sold my 03 SE today. As helpful as they tried to be, the dealership and customer service seem totally useless.
I loved the Disco, but I won't miss it (been there, done that, got the t-shirt attitude).
I don't see myself owning another Land Rover product as long as Ford owns them (have to blame someone).
I hope there is a forum this helpful for my next vehicle.

If you don't mind, what was your mileage, and what were your issues? I have an '03 and would like to keep an eye out for them.

When I started shopping for a Disco I went to the local dealer to check them out - I spoke with a salesman who informed me that they provided loaner cars if you were in for service (this was important to me).
Turns out they only provide loaners if you purchase from their dealership - they won't even give you a ride otherwise.
I complained to them under warranty:
A ticking noise on cold start and asked them to check the oil pump: They said my oil pump was fine, but couldn't tell me the oil pressure or how they checked it. They couldn't duplicate the noise - after 6 visits they never let it sit overnight to try. Even the regional rep came out and only let it sit 2 hrs. Finally the service manager checked it after it sat overnight and said he thought it was just the air injection pump. I asked them to check the oil pressure on 2 occassions - never happened. I asked for info from LR that this was normal every time it was up there - they never provided.
An oil leak: The first 2 times they said they didn't see one (WTF! are you f'ing blind?!?) on the 3rd visit they decided to replace a valve cover gasket.
A high speed vibration: They could never duplicate the problem, ran this up the pole with LR and they sent their regional guy out who said the vibration was consistent with 4WD vehicles. Interestingly enough this occured around 5:00 on a weekday. LR Austin is downtown - and hour away from being able to hit 70 MPH at 5:00. The service rider even rode with me and could feel it, and I gave him specific instructions to call me if they couldn't duplicate it and I would come down and show them - he never called. For comparison: A '68 Jeep CJ-5, '88 Wrangler, and a 2000 Chevy Z-71 don't vibrate like this - I'm not crazy or over sensitive.
An outside rear view mirror not motoring out all the way: This should be easy, right? Since it moved a little they said it was okay. I had to make another appointment and go back up there and show them that it stopped before going out all the way - they replaced it the second time.
Driver's seat loose: We're talking about a lot of play, hello, rock me to sleep. Twice I had it up there and they said it was normal as they had compared it to others at the dealership (WTF! if they all are loose replace them!) I asked for specs from LR about how loose was okay. Never provided - but they did replace the seat frame eventually.
It's not that these issues were deal breakers - but the incompentence with which they responded to them was. I've owned 3 Infinitis and and Acura - I expect Land Rover service to be on par with them. Instead I find myself comparing them to Chevy and Volkswagen where LR loses every time.
I'll likely be replacing it with a Chevy Avalanche (I know they completely different animals, no flame necessary).

never been a huge fan of new land rovers...
and pretty much all car-dealerships are full of snobs, even at the honda dealer my mum bought her minivan at the salespeople acted like they were worth more money then i had ever seen

Sorry to hear about you trouble with the dealer.
Its hard to find dealers that want to give good service let alone
good tects.

When I had my Rover serviced in Scottsdale they did provide a free loaner vehicle even though I did not purchase from them. Strange they didn't for you.
Fact of the matter is Land Rover is not a reliable car company. FACT. I have read reliability reports of vehicle manufacturers and LR is near the bottom, regardless of how fanatical you are about maintenance you will still have major/minor problems on average greater then other manufacturers. Going from an Infiniti/Acura to a rover is a brutal change. In terms of reliability that's like going from being a King to a peasant. A rover owner has to be willing to take harsh reliability hits but only because they still just like driving a rover. I believe a vast majority of Land Rover owners keep thier trucks because they have a passion for them, not because they are in anyway reliable. To be honest, if I didn't have the formal mechanical training and experience I doubt I would own a rover. Rovers are no way meant for everyone, a sort of enthusiam and sense of hobby has to exist in my mind for owners to keep them (or for the rich the status quo). Rover just isn't your cup of tea, hope and am confident you will find a truck that is! Good luck!

I would say that its the Dealer that makes or brakes the Land Rover
name some people get great service and some don't.
The ones that don't will not keep their LR's.
I would thing that if his problems had been taken care of the first
time it was in the shop for the problems he would still be a owner.
Some dealers just can't get it right.
