does anybody know of an easy way to get more power out of the 1996 4.6 HSE engine. It seems to me that a 4.6 liter V8 should be putting out more than 225HP there has to be a way to unleash the beast. If anybody has any ideas please help.

Hi !

There is no "easy" way.

Use search engine to find RPI or JE engineering in the UK, they are specialists.

Regards,

Takeo.

Well, i've got to assume an exhaust would do wonders for this motor an aftermarket filter can't hurt. Although opening up the exhaust has it's draw-backs, one being the truck will be loud.

well for starts the cam is set up more for torque than hp, and you can't help the fact that your driving a lead sled so you need the torque..heck i can make it have as much hp as you request..but the main fact of the matter is how much you willing to invest??..speed costs money weither it be speeding tickets or horse power

As others have mentioned, it can be expensive. A supercharger is and option and the 4.6 is a good engine to use. Here is a site I found on Google. Quoted increases in power are 25-50 hp. You may look into similar types of services. Good Luck.

The fact is, that the 4.6L motor is essentially an engine from the late 1950's. The design of the block and heads has not changed much in 50 years. It is inefficient, uses lots of premium gas for basically little output. Still, look at the facts: A 1997 Ford Expedition with the standard 4.6 liter engine only makes 240 hp, and 300 or so pounds of torque. Not much different from the RR's 225 / 277 figure. In 1999, Rover got rid of the old LUCAS / GEMS engine mgt system and the old riser plenum found on you engine, and used a new Bosch engine mgt as well as the intake system found on V8-powered BMW's. Still, this didn't net too much on the old pushrod engine-the 4.0L version was at 188hp and 250lb-ft, while the 4.6 went down to 218 hp but up to 300 lb-ft torque. Still, my 1995 4.0SE with the smaller engine feels adequate. With a full load, I can actually accelerate up a hill, and power isn't too bad. I would think the 4.6 is a fair amount better than this. I do know that D.A.P. Inc, a Land Rover service specialist in the UK and the US, did a significant amount of R&D on supercharging the Rover V8 and found this was a POOR engine to do it on and the results weren't worth the cost.

Want power from your Rover? Get an LR3 with Jaguar 4.4V8 good for 300hp / 315lb-ft, or the new Range Rover, BMW 4.4 V8 powered, good for 282hp and 325 lb-ft.
