Ok, not going to get into a contest here :)...I thought the same thing with the SES light...however, 450.00 later, I've got a new Mass Airflow sensor, check engine never came on however, it was throwing codes for the MAS...so, L.R. owners just know, we have fickle vehicles.

I have the same problem. I think it might be the Mass Airflow sensor also. My bud took it off sprayed some choke cleaner and some compressed air and it rn like new. It did come back so I know I need a tune up and maybe a new sensor. I also need my throttle body cleaned out. You can pick up the sensor for 140 bucks through atlanticbritish.com. I will respond onceit is all finished and light is gone for good.

Choke, carb, or brake cleaner is a big nono!

I read your post on landrover forum concerning the service engine light. I have a 2000 Disco 2 and the SES light will go off and on, but it seems like it goes away after I fill up with a full tank of gas, and then will come on when the tank gets to 3/4 or 1/2 full. So I replaced the gas cap thinking there was a leak... it did not fix the problem.
My question to you is, did you notice the same or did your light just go off and on whenever it wanted too? Or after having the air flow sensor fixed, did it complete the puzzle? Thanks for your time, Matt

i have a 00 DII with 70K on the clock. the "service engine soon" light also came on last month but it went away til last night it came on again. it's the "service engine soon" light for sure not the "check engine". i printed out the link on how to reset it. i'll try it out and we'll see how it goes.

Hello Everyone,

New here as well. I have a 2000 DISC II I bought new in 1999 and now with 178,000 miles on the clock. At 101,000 needed to have the head gaskets done and the heads done at the same time. Put new plug wires on and plugs, air filter for a tune up about 500 miles ago. The Service Engine soon light went out for a week. Code error was for a mis fire for the the bad plug lead. Now the engine soon light is back on. It has been 76,000 since I had the heads done. Would the Seevice Engine soon be for an emisson check? I had the air flow sensor replaced as well about 40K ago.  My question is, sorry to be so wordy. I wanted to give some background on the vechile first. How much longer can this thing run, before more major engine work? It is using a little anti freeze and hopefully not the head gaskets again. There are no fluids in the driveway or bubbling in the overflow res.
Really like the truck, but wife is pressuring me on the $$$ I am spending on repairs..

This truck as been maintained to the max for oil changes, fluids, brakes, ect.

Thanks in advance for the feedback...

Steve
