Hi all,

I have a 2001 Discovery II with about 60-70K miles (wife drives). 3 amigos and service engine lights on. LR dealer wants 200$ just to plug in to computer, and then after reading your posts on this problem, I begin to shudder. I am bothered by the cost, as well as the fact that LR tries to take advantage of people and fails to take responsibility for this issue.

Can any of you recommend reliable independent land rover service in southern NH (Manchester/Nashua/etc) area???

I would really appreciate information. I am very reluctant to bring it to dealer.

Thanks!

Go to Auto Zone or any other auto parts store, they will check your engine code for free.
As for the ABS, that is a bigger issue.
Call me and I;ll be glad to walk you thru the best way to get the ABS issue resolved.

P0171

System too rich (bank 1)

Multiplication injector adaptive fuelling - rich limit exceeded LH bank

P0174

System too rich (bank 2)

Multiplication injector adaptive fuelling - rich limit exceeded RH bank

P0734 (32)

* Ratio monitoring, implausible 4th gear ratio

No apparent effect

P1668

Engine anti-theft signal circuit high

Serial link open circuit

P1590

ABS rough road signal circuit malfunction

Hardware is OK, but SLABS ECU is sending an error signal
Those are the codes that VIP auto service read from system.

1668 self explanatory - I think someone just set off alarm by accident.  Any other insights???

There is a mix of codes.
What sort of air filter are you running, is it a K&N by chance??
The 1668 and the 1590 are nothing and when cleared will go away. The other 3 codes tie together but in the reverse of what they normally do> If I am right, you might have a MAF sensor failing.
Get back to me on the air filter.

Hi Mike,

Thanks - sorry was away from internet. I will have to check filter brand but I can say that it is standard LR fiter. I did not add after market filters/items.

There is independent mechanic that can do LR in Manchester NH area but their rates seem almost as high.  Dealer wanted $100 to hook up to computer to read codes.  These guys want $87. VIP Auto parts did it for free in about 2 minutes...

It would be great if we could identify exactly what is wrong.

You can get engine codes done anywhere for free but when it comes o things like ETC, SLS and ABS, you do need the big scanner and it will cost you. I would pay the $87 as long as they will clear the codes after you write them down. There is a good chance that when cleared, the ABS trio of lights won't come back on.

Shop cleared codes and investigated.  They said SES probably from lazy o2 sensor. But not serious so no action taken. 3 amigos cleared and 5 miles later still off.  I won't be surprised when they return. We shall see. Upset for other reason though - see 'RUST' thread....

What are the three amigos? About half of the time that I apply the brake the ABS, parking brake, and Traction control lights flash on and off.  Are those the three amigos?  If so, what does that mean is wrong with my RR?

If you want help from us, be more specific, Don't give us your mechanics version of we he thinks is wrong, give us the exact fault code numbers, half the mechanics are not qualified to determine what is lazy and what needs replacement.
