Just like the K&N filters, any washable and oiled filter will cause your MAF to fail. I would seriously suggest you not use these, MAF's are not cheap.

please excuse my ignorance here mike cause i do value your opinion but what is an MAF? i`m new to the LR game and am trying to gain as much knowledge as i can,it is a k&n fillter and i`ve used these on all my recent cars from 4clnd to 8clnd for many years and so far i havn`t had any adverse effects.ford, gm or other they all seem to preform better with this type of fillter.

On 99 and newer Disco's and Range Rovers, they use a Bosch MAF, mass air flow sensor, which is to sensitive to oil contamination caused by the oil on the K&N filter. So the MAF dies, truck runs like crap and you get to put out $130 for a new MAF.

You will cost your self more in repairs and maintance using anything less then 91 octane, as well as loose at least 1 MPG.


Thanks discomike, you are probably the most helpful person on here. I will be using 93 octane from now on... but I will say my MPG never changed from 14 when I switched from 93 to 89, nonetheless I will be feeding Nigel premium from now on.  [My girlfriend named the dude on the navi Nigel because of the brit-accent and it just kinda stuck, I know it should be a female name, but Nigel seems to be more fitting]

The time you'll see a mileage loss is when the 89 is mixed with Ethanol which per-litre has about 25% less energy than petrol.  If their midgrade is entirely petrol and you're not getting any knocking (or timing retardation to prevent it) then mileage should be about the same.

91 octane and up is great.

1993?  That could be the low compression engine actually, in which case regular is fine.
