Mountainman -> What would this be worth in the states? (11/11/2007 1:28:13 AM)

Hey Guys,
Just trying to decide if its worth trying to bring my 110 back to the states when it turns 25.  Its an 1986 with about 230K with a 2.5 diesel in it.  Also, does anybody know the cost involved?

                                                                        Thanks,
                                                                             David

"GOLD"
Why are you wanting to sell it or keep it?

Hey Mike,

I want to keep it, just trying to determine if is worth the hassle it will be shipping out of Albania.  Things can be kinda challengeing to get accomplished here.  Any idea what documents will be needed?  I have a few years before I can bring back, but that gives me time to make sure I get everything done before I leave.

It would be worth somewhere between $12k and $18k, best bet.  The biggest challenge, when it turns 25, is not getting it here, but getting it to pass emissions tests.  Anything after 1974 has to get EPA certified.  The more work that needs done to it (certainly with that many miles) will offset the value to the guy who thinks he will buy it as a project truck (because he ultimately doesn't want to pay for a 1993 NAS 110).  He figures he'll throw down $15k or so for the truck, then put a 200tdi or 300tdi into it, then some random offroad stuff.  Essentially, that project is about $30k minimum and most guys just peter out before it gets done and they never really count the full cost as their eyes get bigger than their proverbial stomachs, so they sell their dream to someone else who will inch it along until it gets completed.

Yes, it would definetly be worth bringing into the states.  You are required by law to do it through a Registered Importer.  You can find a list of R.I.'s on the DOT's website.  This is a direct link:

EPA regulations only go back 21 years.  It's DOT (safety regulations) that prevent it from coming before 25 years old.  This is a direct link to the EPA website.

Hey, Thanks for the websites.  I was a little worried about the EPA requirement.  So thats great I don't have to worry about that.  I will start to contact importers to find out what their cut will be to import.

                                                                                        Thanks again,

I got an online quote recently to ship a Dodge Ram from NY state to the UK... was around £900 to £1k so $1,800 to $2k US I guess... I can dig out their details for you if you'd like?

Yikes, now I really appreciate the freedom we get by living in Canada.
