it sounds like a loose sleeve...and it needs a motor...not really a big job if you have a couple of tools you'll be ok ,btw the motor was designed by bmw

All posts are 100% true. This car is surely the worst of the decade. I have been driving with a gallon of Dexcool since day 1 and I am now into my 6th year. Leaky Thermostat Changed 3x, and leaking again. Heater Core replaced. Coolant Reservoir replaced.... Truly a shameful product. So far no success with a class action suit. But I hope that we can somehow recover our dignity as Land Rover surely lacks in this department. Great looking lemon; LR = Lemon Rover

The 2.0 TD4 is a BMW engine and is also in the BMW Series 3 and Rover 75.

The 1.8 petrol uses the Rover K-series engine.  Also in the Rover hatchbacks/saloons, MG F and Lotus Elise.

The 2.5 petrol uses the Rover KV6 engine.

Cheers

You're screwed. More then likely it's leaking into the crankcase.. Either way, you'll need to replace the engine..

Oh great! I just found this site. I had my car in the shop this week for empty coolant tank. Then I picked it up from the dealer and it immediately overheated again. I think my extened warranty expires next month. Any advice?

Do you guys bleed the system after topping up the coolant?

Do you use OAT coolant or methanol?

Cheers

Same problem with '02 Freelander (2.5L engine) -- Had it in the shop numerous times before they acknowledged the problem was the engine block.
Finally had to get Calif. Bureau of Automotive Repair involved to get Encino Land Rover to honor the warranty.
