I am either going to shoot myself or this Range Rover. A dealer friend (or so I thought) picked up this RR for me at an auction. It has a multitude of problems, but the most serious one seems to be in the shifting. As I am driving, it goes into freewheeling then reengages. It does this continuously. I'm getting whiplash. Then when I turn it off it indicates "gearbox fault." Has anyone had a similar experience? I didn't get an owners manual so I don't know what most of the bells and whistles are even there for. Could this be an electrical problem or something other than the dreaded "bad transmission?" If anyone can help me I will personally shine your shoes. I dont know if this is relevent, but it was delivered on a car transport. I suppose the driver had to squash or mash something to get it on the transort. Sorry to be so longwinded about this but I am feeling like a moron for not buying a Chevy. Thank you to anyone who responds, even if you confirm that I am a big fat idiot. I live in Tornado alley Iowa. I wish one would come tonight and remove this heap from my life.

it sounds like the linkage to the transmission is slipping in and out of gear. May be bend or just out of adjustment. If that is not the problem. Oh god help me. take it to a rover dealer and let them do the diag. system check. usually cost about a hundred. if necessary shot the car. In most states shotting yourself is illegal. You can also question directly into the range rover section and there may be other opinions. Last if all else fails see if you dealer "friend" will take the vehicle back to the auction. Rovers overall are good vehicles. I have a 96 disco with 130k had it since 7k, no major problems. has cost me about 500.00 per year to maintain, that includes brakes and tires. My chevy products cost me alot more. Hope it helps. Just one reminder shooting the dealer may seem fair but it is still jail time. always use benefit vs risk when making that decision. Just joking. take care. duboff.

Hello Mr Duboff and thank you for replying. If it was an adjustment problem, how could I check that? The only tools I have are a big hammer and a crescent wrench
