IMO, Defenders are the cats arse of all Rovers. I recently bought a LR3, and am trying to talk my wife into driving it, and letting me sell her car to buy a Defender.

Question:
Can Defenders, that can be bught today, be driven as a daily driver or are they only for mechanically inclined minds? I don't know how to fix vehicles, and don't want to spend a bunch of money to keep a vehicle running (especially if I got rid of a perfectly working BMW).

If you are buying a relatively new Defender (meaning one that is not 15 years old) you should have no problem with it. My dad had 2 defenders, one of them was like 3 years old and the other like 12 years old. We never had any problems with any of them. Defenders Rock!

You can't buy a new Defender in the US guys... I think 1997 was the last run of them.

Running, reliability and repair costs are pretty much identical to a similar age Discovery or RRC - they're virtually identical under the skin apart from the ironwork of the chassis (92" or 110" for a Defender, 100" for the Discovery and the RRC if memory serves)

Cheers,
